Pre-Columbian Huacos: A Cultural Monograph
In partnership with the Embassy of Peru
A limited-edition coffee table book dedicated to the preservation and visual study of sacred Pre-Columbian ceramics.
My Role:
Visual Documentation & Archival Cataloguing: Executed precise, high-fidelity studio photography of delicate replicas of historical artifacts.
Editorial & Creative Development: Developed the visual narrative, layout design, and thematic structure of the publication.
Project Coordination: Managed end-to-end communication and logistics between cultural archives and diplomatic stakeholders.
In approaching this collaboration, the primary challenge was translating the intricate, three-dimensional history of these sacred huacos into a static, two-dimensional format. My visual strategy was to balance technical precision with cultural reverence, moving beyond a standard museum catalogue toward a visceral, artistic encounter. The ultimate goal was to establish a stark, clean visual presentation where each huaco is elevated as the absolute hero and focal point of the page. The scale of the task—visualizing and structuring 54 unique historical pieces—led to my dual role as both documentarian and creative lead, overseeing the technical cataloguing process as well as the overarching editorial narrative flow.

Institutional Coordination & Archive Management
Documenting meticulously crafted historical replicas presented a unique artistic opportunity. Rather than treating these pieces as mere reproductions, my visual strategy was to treat them with the exact same reverence, precision, and dramatic lighting as museum-held originals. By carefully controlling the shadows and emphasizing the surface textures, the photography bridges the gap between historical replica and ancestral spirit. This independent project stands as a testament to my ability to manage complex, multi-layered editorial narratives and partner with diplomatic institutions to keep cultural heritage alive, accessible, and visually stunning for a global audience.
